What’s New in the 2023 Chevy Malibu?

For 2023, the Malibu sees the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that developed 250 horsepower axed from the lineup. This leaves the sole powertrain option as the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that puts out 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Drive goes to the front wheels through a CVT transmission. The Premium trim is also no more on the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu. In its place is a new top-tier trim called the 2LT. Three special editions are available for 1LT and 2LT trims. These are the Midnight Edition, Sport Edition, and Redline Edition. These offer a blacked-out grille and outside mirrors, new black 19-inch alloy wheels, and emblems in black or red. The interior is largely unchanged from the 2022 model year. 2023 sees the Malibu receive more standard safety equipment, further cementing its role as a dependable midsize family sedan.

History of the Malibu

In 1997, Chevrolet introduced the Malibu as a front-wheel drive sedan. It came with two powertrain options: the standard 150-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine or the available 155-horsepower 3.1-liter V6. It saw a number of unique variations over the following years, such as the Malibu Maxx, a five-door hatchback wagon. It has also released as a noticeably bigger sedan and a high-performance model known as the Malibu SS. In 2013, Chevy imbued the Malibu with a host of practical features and a reimagined interior.
